Councilman Erik Weigand
As a lifelong resident born and raised in Newport Beach, it is an honor to serve the residents of District 3 on the Newport Beach City Council. I am grateful for the opportunity to seek re-election and continue working on behalf of the community that has given me so much.
Newport Beach has always been home. I attended Mariners Elementary, Ensign Intermediate, and Newport Harbor High School before graduating from Chapman University with a Bachelor’s Degree in Criminal Justice. My wife and I met on the Balboa Peninsula, and both of our children were born at Hoag Hospital.
Public service runs deep in my family. My parents met at the Newport Beach Police Department, where my father served as a Police Officer in the 1970s and 1980s, and my mother, after 33 years of service, retired as a Civilian Traffic Supervisor in 2010.
Before being elected to the City Council, I served six years as one of seven Newport Beach Planning Commissioners. That experience gave me valuable insight into land use, development, and the importance of protecting the character of our city while planning responsibly for the future.
With more than two decades of legislative and political experience at the federal, state, county, and local levels, I bring a broad perspective and a strong network of relationships that help deliver real results for Newport Beach. I approach every decision thoughtfully, working to understand all sides of an issue and build consensus whenever possible.
As your Councilmember, I remain committed to protecting the quality of life that makes Newport Beach such a special place. That means standing up to Sacramento mandates that threaten local control, addressing the ongoing challenges of homelessness, ensuring public safety remains a top priority, and pushing back against excessive housing proposals that could permanently change the character of our community.
Serving this city is both a responsibility and a privilege. I look forward to continuing the work we’ve started together and respectfully asking for your support as I seek re-election.
