Erik's Four Step Plan to Address Homelessness

Newport Beach should take a more proactive approach to reducing homelessness and
its negative impact on our quality of life.

As your Councilman, I will support a comprehensive approach to this issue, including:

1) Stricter enforcement of our ordinances against loitering, camping and
panhandling. We need to make Newport Beach a LESS attractive place for individuals who refuse help.

2) Stricter regulations on Recovery Residences. Also known as Sober Living Homes, these facilities contribute to our homeless population when patients drop out and/or when their insurance benefits dry up. There is a direct correlation between group homes and the increased rise of homelessness and property crime.

3) Closing down the bus terminal at the OCTA Transportation Center. It has become a
magnet that brings more out-of-town homeless to Newport Beach.

4) Work with our County, State and Federal representatives to secure medical
treatment for the mentally ill and addicted homeless. Treatment facilities must be located far away from residential neighborhoods and shopping areas.
